The Upper East Side

The Upper East Side is one of the most luxurious and exclusive neighborhoods in New York City. It’s home to some of the city’s wealthiest people and some of the most famous cultural institutions. The neighborhood is also known for its luxury and its many historic mansions.

Central Park borders the Upper East Side to the south, 74th Street to the east, Fifth Avenue to the north, and 81st Street to the west. The neighborhood includes Sutton Place on the north, Carnegie Hill on the east, and Inwood on the west.

The Upper East Side was originally a farming community. In 1875, Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux designed a landscape plan for what is now known as Central Park. The plan included a golf course, promenades, lakes, and hills that were meant to be used by residents of what was then called The Boerum Hill district.

It wasn’t until 1884 that development started in earnest on The Upper East Side. That year, developer Lewis Cass Gilbert bought 9 Eighty-fourth Street with plans to build a grand estate. He named his property Belvedere Castle after Belvedere Castle in Italy, where he had gone on vacation. Unfortunately for Gilbert, he ran into financial trouble shortly after buying Belvedere Castle, and it sat vacant for many years.

Central Park

Central Park is a vast urban park in the center of Manhattan, New York City. It covers 543 acres and is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the world. The centerpiece of Central Park is its 77-acre Great Lawn, which is used for concerts, political rallies, and other large events. Other park features include Lake George, Bethesda Terrace, Conservatory Garden, and Ramble Path.

Lower East Side
